After a weekend like this last one of overindulgence of food and drink, I often feel the need to recharge with some healthier food and increase my intake of some actual water! This is my Good Morning Green Smoothie. It’s so easy and always tastes great even though it has a heaping bunch of spinach in it. I whip it up in my Nutri-Bullet, which I seriously love, but you can use any blender type thing that you have at your disposal. This is a perfect breakfast that energizes me and starts the day off right. I will often make healthier choices for the day if I start it off with one of these.
My measurements are not exact because I am usually making this in between begging a naked 5 year old to get dressed and preventing the next meltdown in my 9 year old. Usually though, whatever ratio I use, it turns out well. I use frozen bananas that I throw in my freezer every few days as they begin to turn brown on my counter. I either let them sit out for a bit to defrost or put them in the microwave for 20 seconds so I can peel them and plop them in the blender.
1 cup crushed ice
1 cup raw spinach leaves/ large handful)
1-2 small bananas
½ -1 cup water
Drizzle of agave or Honey
You can adjust these measurements to the texture and taste that you prefer, but this is a basic formula that works for me every time.
So, that’s it! Green smoothies may seem complicated to some, but I’m here to tell you that if I can fit this into my hectic morning then so can you! If If you catch me on a good week when I’m exercising somewhat regularly, I’ll throw a scoop of plant based protein powder in there. That definitely changes the texture and taste, but it’s still pretty good!
I love to put this in my Elsie bottle by Ello. It’s glass, holds 22 ounces, and it NEVER leaks. I honestly can’t say that about any other water bottle I’ve tried.
When I’m finished with the smoothie, I fill it with water (which I will hopefully drink) and stay hydrated all day. Go Green (smoothie)!
